The Department of Anesthesiology, Laboratory of Dr. Evan Kharasch, Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine, is recruiting an enthusiastic postdoctoral scientist to study drug transport and transporters at the blood-brain barrier and other organ interfaces. The laboratory is dedicated to clinical and translational research on the metabolism, transport, and clinical effects of anesthetics, analgesics and related drugs, assessing hepatic and extrahepatic in vitro and clinical drug biotransformation, transport, drug interactions, pharmacogenetics, and disease effects. The laboratory uses multidisciplinary approaches involving human cell models and expression systems, relevant in vivo animal models, and clinical studies to translate basic discoveries. The laboratory also develops and implements appropriate quantitative analytical methods. The post-doctoral candidate will be part of a large and diverse community of scientists in anesthesia and neuroscience, and growing community of pharmacologists.

Successful candidates will have the following qualifications:

• Ph.D. in a relevant discipline, and demonstrated experience in performing research and publication with a high degree of independence

• Hands-on skills in transporter biology, cell culture, transfection and expression systems, and molecular approaches to blocking or enhancing transporter function

• Some familiarity and experience with relevant bioanalytical methods (LCMS) and drug metabolism will be helpful but not required

• Demonstrated originality, initiative and creativity in experimental design and problem solving, and developing innovative research and novel approaches

• Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively

• Strong interpersonal skills, outstanding verbal and written communication skills, and thorough proficiency in conversational English
