CSIRO Energy Transformed Flagship is involved in the development of new generation solar cell technologies in collaboration with Swinburne University of Technology. In particular, CSIRO will develop new thermal management systems for solar cells.

We are looking for a talented researcher to join our multidisciplinary team as a Postdoctoral fellow to help drive the development of a prototype. The main role of this fellowship is in developing fluidic thermal management device, device fabrication and integration, thermofluids experimentation, data analysis and reporting. You will work in team environment with senior scientists and technicians with expertise in fluid dynamics, thermal science, physics and solar cells. It is expected the new position will contribute to the team’s strong scientific publication record.

More specifically you will:

  • Experimental design and theromofluid measurements;
  • Investigation of gas liquid two phase flow in microchannels
  • Device fabrication, testing, data acquisition and analysis
  • Reporting results to project leaders and other stakeholders
  • Work with other team members and provide support and/or supervision of junior staff or students, etc.
  • Produce high quality scientific and technical outputs including journal articles, conference papers and presentations, patents and technical reports.
  • Develop innovative concepts and ideas for further research.

    Salary: AU$81K - $88K per annum plus up to 15.4% superannuation

    You will be mentored by senior scientists as part of CSIRO’s Postdoctoral Fellows Program which aims to train early career scientists for a research role. You will be expected to communicate the outcomes of your research through presentation of results at national and international conferences and publications in relevant scientific journals.

    To be successful you will have:
  • A PhD in physics, engineering, or related area
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct innovative research in fluid mechanics, preferably in microfluidics, and heat and mass transfer.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop experimental plans and pursue novel research approaches.
  • Demonstrated originality, creativity and innovation in solving problems and introducing new directions and approaches.
  • Ability to work with a broad range of people from varying research backgrounds and evidence of strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to publish the results of scientific research in scientific journals.
