The International Fellowship Program (IFP) TransCure, funded in part by an FP7 European Marie Curie Actions grant, invites applicants for post-doctoral training in a multidisciplinary research network with state-of-the-art biophysics, pathophysiology, structural biology and medicinal chemistry. IFP TransCure supports highly qualified international postdoctoral scientists to conduct research at major universities in Switzerland, including Basel, Bern, Lausanne and Zürich, as part of the activities of this unique translational research network. The major support for this network comes from the Swiss National Center of Competence in Research (NCCR) TransCure (http://www.transcure.org). Our research focuses on therapeutically attractive membrane transporters and ion channels with the aim to understand and develop treatments for major human diseases. Training is available in the following research areas:
1. Cancer biology (e.g. targeting nutrient transporters for cancer treatment; use of in vitro and in vivo cancer models in the evaluation of therapeutic lead compounds)
2. Lipid transport (e.g. structure, regulation and pharmacology of lipid transporters; role of canalicular lipid secretion in acquired forms of cholestasis)
3. Iron transporters as therapeutic targets
4. Calcium-activated chloride channels
5. Astrocyte-specific targeting (e.g. targeting vesicular neurotransmitter transporters)
6. Diabetes and energy homeostasis
7. Gout
8. Endocannabinoid system
9. Membrane transport in kidney function
10. Bone and mineral homeostasis
11. Pathologies during pregnancy
12. Na/H exchangers
13. Virtual screening and chemical ligand design for channels and transporters
14. Targeting membrane transporters in heart diseases
15. Preclinical drug development (ADME/PK/toxicology) for validated transporter/channel targets)
