Research Associate: Mammalian Oocyte and Embryo Biology
The appointment will be full time on UCL Grade 7. The salary range will be £32,699-£39,523 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
A position is available to study mitochondrial function in calcium signalling and cell division during the development of the mammalian oocyte and embryo. The project is a collaboration between Professor John Carroll, Dr Gyuri Szabadkai and Professor Michael Duchen in the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology at University College London. We seek a motivated individual with good communication abilities to work within a dynamic lab environment. The project will involve mammalian oocyte handling and microinjection and micromanipulation, state-of-the-art imaging, and molecular and biochemical techniques.
Start date flexible, but would ideally be May 2014.
This position is funded by the MRC, and is available until May 2016 in the first instance.
PhD degree (or working towards a PhD) in molecular cellular biology, or equivalent research experience is essential. The post-holder will be required to sub-clone sequences into vectors and to produce mRNA and protein constructs using in vitro kits, and to perform Western blotting on oocytes. In depth knowledge and working experience pertaining to the relevant techniques are therefore highly advantageous. Epifluorescence and confocal imaging will also feature highly. Micromanipulation techniques such as nuclear transfer would be a major benefit.
