The National Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD) Research & Surveillance Unit, part of the Centre for Clinical and Brain Sciences, University of Edinburgh, invites applications to apply for Postdoctoral Research position to investigate the nature of abnormal prion protein within human and animal appendix tissue using biochemical analysis, protein aggregation techniques such RT-QuIC and PMCA, and recombinant protein expression. The successful applicant will be joining an interdisciplinary research team dedicated to the surveillance and research of human prions disease in the vibrant city of Edinburgh. The successful candidate will be responsible for independent planning, conducting, interpreting and reporting the results of the study. The position is funded by the Department of Health for three years (full-time) on a fixed term basis. A PhD degree in Neuroscience or equivalent degree is required. Knowledge and experience on misfolded proteins, and expertise with PMCA and RT-QuIC technologies are desirable.
