Are you looking for an exciting Postdoc opportunity?

The Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark is seeking a candidate to join our team of PhDs and Postdocs. Our project focuses on corrosion of electronic components and systems caused by exposure to humidity and other corrosive gaseous conditions.

Environmental degradation of electronics is an important area today due to the widespread use of electronics such as electrification of vehicles and use in connection with renewable energy systems. This Postdoc position will specifically address the effects of high voltage and humidity on electronic corrosion and involve related electrochemical modeling.

You will also focus on designing high voltage test elements and PCBs required in collaboration with other PhDs and Postdocs. This project is part of Center for Climate Robust Electronic Design project funded by Poul Due Jensen’s Foundation, Denmark.

Responsibilities and qualifications

User environments, such as humidity and gases, influence the performance of electronic devices due to corrosion-related failure mechanisms. These mechanisms depend on operating parameters like voltage and power, for example, on PCBA. Increasing voltage/power to get better functional performance of power electronic systems today increasing the possibility of corrosion failure modes, while mechanisms are getting modified due to several synergistic effects. One key failure mode is electrochemical migration generating short circuits. However, dendrite morphology and chemistry is determined by the electrochemical process that occurs in thin electrolyte layer.

There is lack of understanding on the effect of high voltage and current levels on humidity related failure mechanisms and models. This postdoc project will focus on developing high voltage test set up and test methodologies, design of suitable test PCBs and other components mimicking actual components, devices, or systems. You will also work on Electrochemical modelling of leak current and electrochemical migration failure mechanisms. The project involves coordination with other PhDs and Postdocs.

A PhD in Materials Engineering with a specialization in corrosion and electrochemistry, or a master's degree in electronics with PhD-level expertise in corrosion reliability of electronics or related topics, is required. Prior experience in corrosion reliability of electronics is advantageous.

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).

The period of employment is two years. The starting date will be according to mutual agreement. The position is a full-time position.
